Here are this week’s top tips on everything sports and racing

The Perth Wildcats were very disappointing last Friday night against the Cairns Taipans losing by 23 points but all was forgotten after they hit the road and defeated Premiership favourites Melbourne United on Sunday courtesy of a Bryce Cotton three pointer in the dying seconds of the match.

Tonight they play host to the undefeated South East Melbourne Phoenix who have looked impressive in all three of their matches this season.

This evening is a fundraiser for Breast Cancer and the Wildcats will be wearing pink to support the cause.

Hearing a couple of interviews with Wildcats players this week they have eluded to the fact that this match means a lot to them and I get the impression they will turn up breathing fire.

I have a season strategy with the Wildcats to cover the line and win by big margins on their home floor and while it has only happened once this season, that 27 point win over Illawarra ensured I have a nice buffer to play with.

I will again take the Wildcats to win by 5 points or more at $1.87 as my main banker bet for some multis but will also be nibbling some options at bigger odds including the Wildcats by 10 or more at $2.50, 16 or more at $5.25, 20 or more at $8 and 28 or more at $21.

The Perth Glory have had a steady start to the season drawing their first two matches but they get a fine opportunity to get their first win of the season when they take on the Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.

With a few new players on their roster it is seemingly taking a little bit of time for the Glory forwards to get their chemistry right but against one of the less dangerous teams in the competition Perth can find their mojo here.

I will include them in some multis this weekend at the price of $2.18.

I will take a multi which requires Liverpool,  Manchester City and Chelsea to all win. The multi price is $2.76.

I am going to take a wider multi which includes New Zealand and South Africa to win their Rugby World Cup Semi Finals into Australia to beat Sri Lanka in the first T20 International of the summer on Sunday. The multi price is $2.14. You can include the Wildcats to cover the line to turn it into $3.94, and the Glory as well which swells it to $8.59.

My best bets of the weekend are as follows :

Moonee Valley Saturday Race 9 Number 9 Lys Gracieux  (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.60) : Star Japanese stayer who has proven Group 1 formlines in both Hong Kong and Japan. I interviewed Jockey Damian Lane last week and he suggested that this mare would take a power of beating in this year’s edition of the Cox Plate. Has settled into Australia really well and if she brings her recent Group 1 performances into this race she appears likely to be too classy.

Moonee Valley Saturday Race 10 Number 5 Amangiri (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.40) : Ran a tremendous race when placed in the Angst Stakes at Randwick over 1600 metres at her most recent start and loves racing over this trip where she has had 3 tries for 2 wins and a placing. Has drawn well, will carry just 54 kilograms and looks set to peak for this run. Hard to beat.

Ascot Saturday Race 5 Number 1 Missile Launch (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $5.00) : Handy type who has been close up at 4 of his last 5 starts and this race looks very suitable. Has had 7 tries at this track for 3 wins and 2 placings and this looks his best chance in some time to get back into the winner’s list. Well worth an each way play at nice odds.

Ascot Saturday Race 7 Number 11 Silkinize (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.00) : Smart three year old who has won both of his career starts in nice style and with the claim for Apprentice Harry Grace will carry a postage stamp weight of just 51.5 kilograms in this event. For a youngster with above average ability the light weight puts a lot in his favour. Looks well placed here.

Mandurah Friday Race 5 Number 8 Universal Gas (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Has been flying in recent times with her last 5 starts producing 3 wins and 2 placings. Has had 2 tries from box 8 for a win and a placing and in early markets has come up at nice each way odds – well worth a play at good value. Other nice bets look to be 2-7 Perfect Zuma, 3-4 Mottza and 10-1 Breaker Upper.
